BEVERLY'S LIFE JOURNEY

AFTER GRADUATION

I remained in Pompano through juniror college at BCC and then moved on to become part of the "Gator Nation".  I met my husband on my second day in Gainesville.  Charles was a student/bartender at the Holiday Inn and my mom got sick in the lobby.  He helped her and that was the beginning of a 48 year relationship.  I graduated from UF in 1967.  Charles and I moved to Atlanta where he attended Emory Dental School while I taught school during the beginning of integration and attended grad school at Georgia State.  I received my master's and Charled graduated from Emory.

We moved back to Coral Springs and Charles practiced dentistry in Margate on the boulevard for seven years.  Both of our sons were born at Holy Cross and are true Florida residents.  Charles returned to school in 1978 and we moved the family to Philadelphi.  He attended Hahnemann Medical School and did a residency at University of Pennsylvania.  Our children attended a wonderful Catholic school while we were in Pennsylvania and I worked for a government program writing individual learning programs for illiterate adults.

We returned to Florida and I was accepted to UF law school.  Charles finished his residency at Orlando Regional Medical Center and commuted when he was off duty to spend time with us.  Our home has remained in Newberry which is a small country town west of Gainesville.

My sons, David and Marcus, both graduated from UF.  David later attended Nova Medical School and became a family doc in the Gainesville area.  David died in 2010 as a result of a gunshot wound.  He is greatly missed every moment of my life.

My son, Marcus, graduated from UF in engineering and got his master's at Virginia Tech in structural engineering.  He was doing very well until the morning of 9/11.  All of his projects were canceled and he was left trying to decide what to do next.  He finished law school at Nova and is currently practcing as an assistant attorney general in Tallahassee.  He is married to a wonderful woman from China who is a professor at FSU (We forgive her for that).

Charles continues to practice in Gainesville in his own practice which specializes in maxillofacial and Aesthetic Surgery.

After law school, I practiced as a litigator for several years and then became a mediator.  I went to work for the 8th Judicial Circuit on 9-4-01 as a full time mediator and became director about five years ago.  I spend my days trying to help people reach agreements in domestic violence, divorce, paternity, custody, and dependency cases.

It has been a long journey.  It certainly doesn't seem like fifty years since I left PBHS.

My life since graduation in a nutshell

Following graduation, I went to Broward Junior College and Prospect Hall. During the summer of 1964 I met Jerry, my husband of 46 years, soon to be 47.  We married in 1967 and moved to Georgia, where Jerry attended the University of Georgia and got his doctor's degree. Meanwhile, I worked to help support us during those lean years. We had Elizabeth in Georgia and moved to Detroit for Jerry's first job. It was there that Christopher was born. Shortly after his birth we moved to Corpus Christi, Texas. We have lived in a lot of different places since then - Dallas, Tampa, Chicago (three times) , Belgium and now Arizona.  I was a stay at home mom, but managed to go to school and do a lot of volunteer work.

For those of you who remember motor scooters, we had the Vespa motor scooter franchise for 5 years. I still drive my "pink" scooter with the cowhide seat. I have gotten my real estate license and have watched the market go through its ups and downs - especially here in Scottsdale. Our daugther and her family live in Ohio and our son and his wife live in California. We have a beautiful 14 year old granddaughter, Zoe.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone at our reunion and catching up. It is so sad to look at the Memory page and see all the classmates who will not be with us. I am thankful to be a part of this big event.

Reflections

The past decade of my life has been a reflection of the rest of my life. Upon retirement, I had the opportunity to do what I had a passion for. Having retired from a career as an advocate for special needs children and as a Speech Language Pathologist, I have been able to use those skills to advocate for abused and neglected children as a Guardian ad Litem in Lee County. Having always loved antiques, I now am an antique dealer specializing in early Florida memorabilia. Most importantly, I decided to live my life with no regrets. So...20 years ago I moved back to Fort Myers, married my first love and plan to live happily ever after. We have four children, seven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and one great granddaughter. We enjoy travel adventures, fishing off Pine Island Sound and holding hands in the movies. I've been blessed.

Message From Debbie Scarr Davidson

After a great deal of soul searching,I realized that I will not be able to attend the reunion. I made this decision with a heavy heart. My first priority was to my grandson who will be graduating from high school that weekend. I need to attend his graduation as a very dedicated grandparent. Secondly, as many of you know, I lost my husband the end of August. We were planning the trip to Fla for the reunion. He had celebrated his 50th reunion months before and our deal was that he would go to mine. It has been a very difficult and painful journey and I realize that I cannot travel alone for health reasons and my soulmate is no longer with me. I have had wonderful support from friends, family and especially my church.

I wish all of you who attend the very best! I love visiting you all on our Facebook pages. It has really helped my during the grieving process to look back on happier times. I hope you all have a wonderful time of fun and fellowship as I will sincerely miss seeing you all. God bless!

If you are ever in Greenville, SC, I would love to see you!

How time flies!

I moved to MD after graduation where I met my husband, David, in 1967. We were married that same year.  David, an engineer, was hired by Link Simulation to work on the flight simulators for the Apollo program.  He interviewed with Link the day after Neil Armstrong walked on the moon.  It was an exciting time to be working with NASA in Houston.  Daughter Suzanne was born in 1971.  I received my degree in Elementary Education from the University of Houston in 1974, but never taught.  After the Apollo program ended, David was transferred to New York where he worked on jets and bomber similators.  Daughter Janel was born in 1976.  We were transferred to Sunnyvale, CA in 1981.  Moved back to NY in 1982.  Sadly, David died of cancer in 1993.  I retired in June 2013 from my job as a church secretary and moved to New Hampshire to be near my daughter and new granddaughter.  I only went to Pompano 2 years and was reluctant to attend the reunion, but at Joy and Enid's urging, I am heading back to FL.  I hope I recognize some people!

I will be unable to attend the 50th reunion, but we just celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary and 1 fabulous trip is all we can handle this year.

Just to give you a thumbnail description of our 50 years since graduation:  We have 1 son who graduated from Clemson University, and 1 grandson who is looking very seriously at The Citadel.  My husband (Skip) and I still both work.  He is in sales and I retired from the South Carolina Department of Corrections as Operational Review Manager, however; I returned to work after Skip had some major health problems.

We are happy and well, and wish the best for everyone.

Fifty years and I'm still growing.
June of 1964 I some how managed to  graduate from Pompano High. For the life of me I still don' know how I managed to fool them enough to let me get a diploma, but I did.  A year later Broward jr College figured me out and suddenly I was in the Army. It was a bad time to be in the army.
A year later the prettiest girl in Pompano married me . Four months later they sent me to Viet Nam. Five months later we had  the Tet Offensive. Six monhs later they sent me home, but only part of me came home. I tried, I honestly tried to fit and it seemed for awhle that it might work...but I wasn't really there, even tho I now had a beautiful daughter. We divorced. I split. The next 9 years took me to 50 states and 20 countries.
I grew enough to marry  again. I started a Business. Twelve years went by. She divorced me. Wow, now that was a growing experience, still, life goes on and  she is now happily  marred to a man who suits her better, and my dog still loves me.
More years fly by as I became obsessed with work but then my dog died. Damn it!
New dog now, spent  time in the hopital because I wasn't paying attention to life and that brought me to last year when I retired (not my choice, but the choice of a merciful God.)
So now I am learnng again. Learning how to pay attention when others talk. I am learning
how to grow a tomato, and how to make a necklace and cook Pho. I'm still growing.

Decade by Decade

Up until graduation in 1964 we were all together so no need to go back earlier.

After graduation I attended JCBC for 2 years.  Having done some travel with my father, I knew I really wanted to be in the travel industry so walked the Miami Airport putting in applications with all the airlines.  Lo and behold, Delta called about 2 weeks later, started interviews and then training for the reservations dept.  We were at the Columbus Hotel in Miami and then the Mutual of Omaha Building on Brickell Way.  Met my husband in the office.  He was going to FAU by day and working the evening shift for Delta.  In 1970 we married.  In 1971 when we had our daughter, I resigned and my husband transferred to the Ft. Lauderdale Airport.  We lived in Hollywood until 1979.  In the meantime, our son was born in 1973, I was a stay at home mom but did outside sales for 2 different travel agencies in the area.

Now on to 1980.  We had just moved to Augusta, Ga. with my husband's job with Delta.  It had been difficult for us to find a house because builders were not building because of the high interest rates.  I saw on TV that Ronald Reagan's campaign was opening an office and looking for volunteers to work locally in the campaign.  To make a long story short, I offered my time and was rewarded by becoming a Reagan Delegate to the National Convention in Detriot.  Politics got in my blood and I was active in the local, state and national Republican party efforts.  I also attended the 1984 convention in Dallas.  All the while I was still working in traval agencies in the local area.

In 1990 a dear friend of mine, and a political consultant, was asked to go to Poland to help with their first free local elections in 40 yrs.  She moved over to Warsaw and began her work, asking me to come often to give her a hand.  The owner of the agency I was with was Eastern Europe background and very sympathetic to the cause and allowed me to go several times.  It was one of the most interesting experieces of my life, teaching ballot security and campaign techniques.  During one of the early trips, I was fortunate to meet leaders from a town in the southern plart of Poland.  They were very well organized, but were missing what they considered a major link to their interest in democracy......they wanted a Sister City.  When I returned from that trip, I went to our local county commission and proposed such and agreement and the county officials overwhelmingly agreed.  So beginning in 1991 we embarked on an agreement with Nowy Sacz, Poland, hosting student English teachers in our schools, medical doctors, police officers and many other benefical exchanges.  And I managed to deal with all that and keep up a 40 hr. work week as well (wears me out now when I think of it!!)

2000 brought a new twist to our lives.  My husband retired from Delta Air Lines and we began to look at where we wanted to retire.  Then came 9/11.

My husband was offered a job with TSA at the very beginning to open the airports for the govenment and do training.  He agreed but told them that we had already purchased a home in Indio, Ca. so he would need to make Palm Springs his home base.  There was no problem with that so we moved in our beautiful home in Indio, Nov.2002.  My husband continued his position with TSA until 2010 but unfortunately did not get a chance to really enjoy retirement as he died of cancer in 2011.  And it was the beginning of a new decade for me.

Our two children both lived out of the country for 10 years.  Laurie now lives back in Augusta, Ga. with her husband and my two beautiful grandchildren, ages 13 and 11.  Brian came back from living 10 yrs. in Honduras to pursue his dream of going to medical school and is now in his 3rd year at the Univ. of New Mexico.  No wife or kiddies yet for him, perhaps when school is finished, but he is never lacking "girlfriends".

I still work as a travel consultant and am attached to my office back in Ga.  With computers, cell phones and e-mail one doesn't need a storefront office any longer.  I do a lot of groups, especially cruise groups and love doing it because I enjoy people.  A good life.

Look forward to seeing you ALL real soon.

Stay well and God Bless!

Living my dream...

Most of you probably do not remember me.  I was somewhat the 'loner' type.  I didn't belong to any clubs or play any team sports.  I was lousy at sports, period.  I spent the better part of my senior year palling around with Don Kirk and Hans Grotjahn (sp?), and trying to get up the guts to ask out a certain junior class girl...which I never did.

My passion then (and my career now) was / is music.  I do remember my band, The Impalas, playing at one function at PBSHS...my one night of being somebody!

After graduation, I attended Broward Junior College and earned a degree in electronics, all the while I was playing in local bands (Impalas, Aerovons, Gas Company).  I went to work as a recording engineer at the infamous Criteria Recording Studios in North Miami in 1966.  I also briefly worked for MCI Electronics in Fort Lauderdale, building recording studio equipment.  I married Nancy Carleen Peter in 1967 and returned to Criteria where I worked as a senior recording engineer until 1972, earing several gold records for my work with Aretha Franklin and Eric Clapton.  Nancy and I divorced in 1969.  In 1970, I re-married Elvia Mendez from Miramar, FL.  The group I had been playing with all that time ("GAME") decided to move to Los Angeles.  In July of 1972 a caravan of 15 musicians, roadies, wives, assorted pets, and all the personal belongings that could be stuffed into a 20 foot U-Haul made it's way across the U.S. for a new life.  After several years of trying to get a record deal and playing crappy bars, GAME broke up, and Elvia and I divorced.  I went 'solo' and landed a record deal with Capitol.  In 1977, I self-produced an album entitled "CRANE" at a studio owned by the Beach Boys.  The album was released Jan. 1978 and promptly flopped, sending me back to the 'trenches' (bars).

After a year of that, it was back to Miami and my job as engineer at Criteria Studios.  Things were going quite well for me.  I went to Abbey Road Studio in England to engineer "You Can Do Magic" by AMERICA, I joined and toured with FIREFALL, I appeared several times on STARSEARCH, and I had a self-produced Beach Boys medley that was getting me a lot of national attention and studio work as a guitarist and singer.  In 1983, I married Kathy Allison. We recently celebrated our 30th anniversary!

In August of 1986, at the height of it all, I suffered a terrible accident. Late at night, after running out of gas on I-95, I was shot through the left elbow standing by my car.  Immediate amputation was the prognosis in the ER, but by the Grace of God and the talents of my surgeons I kept my arm, rehabilitated and returned to the road with Firefall late 1986.

I left Firefall in 1987 and began working as a jingle producer for a local company.  I continued to play in local bands and became a first-call backround singer for local recording session work.  Then I had my own radio production and jingle company at home for 9 years, producing over 40,000 radio spots nation-wide.  When my home business failed, I went to work for Avacom in Coral Gables where I have now been for nearly 9 years.

Our son, Brian William Kirkpatrick, was born in 1990.  He is now a hospital corpsman with the Navy and is stationed in Norfolk, VA.

In 2012, I released a second album of original material called "Keep On Walkin'" which can be found at I-Tunes, or CD Baby.  Just type Chuck Kirkpatrick in the artist filed window.

I currently perform with a tribute band to the EAGLES called THE LONG RUN

(www.thelongrun.info).  A list of my recording credits can be found at

www.allmusic.com.

I've been very blessed in this life.  Hopefully I will share some experiences with you all in June, if my schedule allows.

HUGH KIRKPATRICK
Beverly Dickey Turner's Life Story

Growing up in South Florida was a dream for me. I thought that Pompano Beach was  paradise. I married at age 18 to Charles Henley and moved to Memphis, Tennessee. I had two daughters in Tennessee , Sonja born in 1969 and Celeste born in 1972. I then moved to Georgia where I had my son Aaron in 1976.

I earned my education degree from the University of Memphis and wanted to be a teacher. Three children proved to be a full-time job so I devoted my life to them until I reentered the workforce in 1984 for the DeKalb County School System in metro Atlanta.

I moved in 1998 to Hiawassee, Georgia which is in the extreme northern part of the state. I can look from my deck and I see the lake and mountains of both Georgia and North Carolina. Six generations of my ancestors lived in Florida, mostly around the Gainesville area. While living in Atlanta, I encouraged my father and mother to come up to the mountains of North Georgia for a vacation. My mother told me that there are no mountains in Georgia. I reminded her that although we don't have peaks like they had visited in the Rocky Mountains, Georgia does have a high peak of 4783 feet above sea level called Brasstown Bald.

So my parents started to vacation in the Hiawassee, Georgia area on beautiful Lake Chatuge. My second husband Pat Turner and I would drive up from Atlanta, about 100 miles away, to visit with my parents. We loved it so much that we bought a second home here in 1991. We then built another house in 1998 that became our permanent residence. Now my mother Ophelia Dickey, my two sisters Brenda Dickey Arnett and Karen Dickey Wilgan, and I all live here in North Georgia within 5 miles of each other.

I have eight grandchildren. Seven live in the metro Atlanta area and one is in Tennessee. They range from 3 to 18 years old. I keep a close relationship with both my children and my grandchildren. I love to read, watch movies, travel anywhere near or far, enjoy our lake, and get together with family and friends. Life is good and I feel very blessed.

I remain in touch with three amazing high school friends; they are Jayne (Mack) Nichols – class of 1964, Joel Buntin – class of 1963, and Chris (Anderson) Buntin – class of 1965.

My scruffy life so far.

Okay. I was born at an early age in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, (November, 1946), and grew up in the southern suburb of Mt Lebanon. Parents Carl F. and Mary Sue Brass. Educated well and fairly through ninth grade in Mt Lebanon Public Schools (Washington Elementary, Jefferson Elementary, Mellon Jr. High, and Jefferson Jr. High). Listened to Rege Cordic every morning on KDKA while delivering the Post-Gazette. He was like a one-man Monty Python troupe.

Welcomed sister Muffy in 1955. Confirmed, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, circa 1958.

The Pirates finally won the World Series in the fall of 1960 (something they hadn't done since, like, 1066; and the final game of which is commonly accorded the most exciting professional baseball game ever played), so, not wanting to press our luck, we moved to Pompano Beach, Florida, in June of 1961. Much mirth and merriment ensued. Tom Oare, cousin Woody Woodruff and I were acolytes at St. Martin's Episcopal Church, although we often wore surfer baggies under our cassocks. (6:30 Mass was our favorite, since we could sky out to the beach for the rest of the day.) I graduated from Pompano Beach Senior High School in June, 1964, and matriculated at Emory University in fall, 1964, after going through hurricane Cleo.

For reasons that still escape me, with a 2-S (student) draft deferment and honor roll grades, I left the warm nutrient broth of Emory in January, 1966, and joined Uncle Sam's Marines. Did a four year tour including Cherry Point, NC and Vietnam. Released from active duty, December, 1969.

I enrolled at the University of Florida in January, 1970, and took a bachelor's degree in Agricultural Engineering in August, 1974.

Worked in marine electronics for two years in Miami, and then hired on with the Soil Conservation Service, USDA, as a civil engineer in September, 1976, in Shenandoah, Iowa. Married Mary Bonnes of rural Shenandoah in July, 1980.

Our older son, Jared, was born in September, 1983. I did a twenty-plus years tour with the Iowa Air National Guard in Des Moines from July, 1982 to December, 2002. Second son Trevor born June, 1991, and daughter Brianna born May, 1993, both in Lincoln. Jared graduated from Peru State College in Peru, Nebraska in, 2010, with a degree in Criminal Justice / Administration. Trevor graduated from Hastings College, Hastings, Nebraska, with high distinction in Economics this past May. Brianna is studying Architectural Engineering on Regents and Walter Scott scholarships at the Peter Kiewit Institute, the engineering school at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Trevor and Jared are both Eagle Scouts, and Brianna has earned her Girl Scout Gold Award.

Mary and I will celebrate thirty three years of blissful headlock...er, I mean, wedlock in July, 2013. I'm still with the USDA, although our agency has been renamed the Natural Resources Conservation Service. Member of First Lutheran Church here in Lincoln. Been bicycling back and forth to work, fourteen miles round trip, for twenty-three years now in this bicycle-friendly town, definitely a quality-of-life benefit. Otherwise, just doin' the bourgeois shuffle, as Mad Magazine would undoubtedly call our native way of life.

Most succinct summation of the human condition I've yet encountered:

Living in Margate

I can't tell you how much i"m looking forward to our 50th reunion. I'm especially excited about getting together with those of us who lived in Margate in the late 50's early 60's. It was a special time for us.If you didn't live in Margate you would not understand. All through Jr. High and High School(until we could drive) we were isolated, we had to take the bus home after schooland were unable to participate in most school functions. But looking back I would not change a thing.

Over the years we have lost some of our Margate classmates, my best friend Tom DeMay, Wendy Welden, Linda Finger, Josephine Manwell, Terri VanGorder.

I have been able to contact these Margate classmates, Jimmy Joseph, Janie Fredricks (Floyd), Diane Wilson(Dillon),Linda Dunmire(Hollen), and Jake Brey

Still looking for John (Jack) Hopkins, Mike Ridall and Gail Giroux, I'm sure there are more names that I should remember but have forgotten

My life

I was born in Allentown, PA 1947.  Moved to Pompano Beach, FL 1958. Went to Pompano Beach Middle and High School.  In 1961, at the age of 14 I met Bob Spear.  Bob was a friend first then the love of my life and eventually my soul mate. I didn't hang out with my classmates because I was always with him.  We married September 5, 1964 and just celebrated our 48th anniversary.  We had two beautiful girls who grew up to be wonderful women and it was because of us as a couple that this happened. Our girls gave us 3 grand children. Elizabeth 22, Devin 21, and Jenna 18. We always worked together and were willing to go the extra mile to make things work out as smoothly as possible.   We had our ups and downs, but looking back I feel it was more ups then downs. I was an Army wife for three years did not work for the first 18 years.  Went to work at Savings of America for 10 years then went on and worked for the Broward County School Board in 1994.  Moved to Flagler Beach in 1999 where I went to work for the Volusia County School Board.  I retired December 2011 and now I do what I want, when I want to do it. Could go on forever about my life but, I'm hoping to share some of it with you all at the reunion.  Written 2/19/2013)

Since High School -- The Short Version

I moved to New York City after high school graduation to go to secretarial school and worked for advertising agencies (similar to the show Mad Men) for three years.  Met my first husband at Owens-Corning and a year later we moved to New Brunswick, New Jersey where our son, Deron, was born.  Three years later, Deron and I moved to Toledo, Ohio where I worked for Owens-Illinois and met my second husband.  We lived in Toledo for twelve years until Deron and I moved to Boca Raton and I worked for IBM.  After leaving IBM with their buy out package, and getting my paralegal degree at Florida Atlantic University, Deron went into the Marines and I moved to Columbus Ohio.  One year later I met my husband, Doug, a former Marine Corps officer, now an IT Project Manager.  We’ve been married over 20 years and live in Dublin, Ohio with our two Siamese kitties, Suki and Seiko. We have one grandson, Brody, who is 4 years old.  I left corporate America in 2008 where I was working for Wendy’s as their intellectual property paralegal.  Since then, I’m enjoying writing personal essays and getting them published in magazines.  Check them out on my website -- www.melodeecurrier.com.

The (Somewhat) Short Version

I was raised in Maple Heights, Ohio and in 1962 my family moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.  So there I was, a 15 year old going to a new school and not knowing one person.  It was very hard for me, but I got through it.  I met the young man I was to marry (Bill Romanowski) and we did so, in 1965.  I had a daughter, Tonya, in 1967.  The marriage was not to last due to his alcoholism etc.  In 1970 I started working for Motorola in a warehouse in Oakland Park, before the main facility opened in Plantation.  This career lasted 26 years and took me from that warehouse to Plantation, to Boca, to Boynton Beach and eventually to Fort Worth, Texas in 1993.  Bill Flowers, the man I was dating just before leaving Florida,  moved to Texas and we married in 1994 in Las Vegas.  In 1996, I took an early retirement.  We decided to move to NC and buy a house that we wanted to restore.  It was in a small mountain town called Clyde.  I found a job at our local Dollar Tree and after a while became Assistant Manager.  I was there for a total of 9 years.  Unfortunately, in 2006, Bill was diagnosed with lung/brain cancer and passed away in 2007.  We tried everything, but it was not to be.  In 2011, I made a brave move to Michigan where I bought a small house in Burton.    In July of 2011, I took a chance and decided to try Match.com.  I got lucky and met a great man named Oren.  He was the first and only guy I corresponded with.  We will be together 2 years this coming July 1st.  I am a Grandma to Jacob, 24 and Jessica 23 and also a Great Grandma to Alysah, 5 and Brooklyn 3.  I am healthy (with the normal ailments of a 66 year old!) and hope to live a long life.  I am adding my favorite photo of Oren and I.
